It will only go up right?

Posted by Dogfish

Nan has been looking around for the best price on gas and electricity. A while back, we were locked in with a company for our gas and did not know how good we had it until the lockin time ran out. Sheesh!

I don’t know about you, but my thought is that these costs are just going to keep climbing. It does not make any sense to me at all that they would go down. So, we are going to lock in again (at a considerable amount higher for electricity I might add….).

And next week, they will announce to the rest of the country that prices are going to drop at least 50 - 75% in the next year. :(

You’re welcome everyone. Enjoy the fruits of my frustration

I knew this day would come!

Finally!

At church yesterday, one of my friends asked if I would like to take my sons on a canoeing/camping trip with him and another father and son from our church. Yes!!!!!

I knew that someday I would have the opportunity to do this and it seems that it will be this summer. ooh, I am so pumped! We are going to have to plan it all out…

It’s gonna be great. The boys have no idea how much fun this will be!

On again, off again…

The other day I was ranting about how it sucks to be a parent some days. I was lamenting the fact that I had to discipline my youngest and was not too happy about doing it.
A couple of days before, I was saying how great they are.. I am officially back to what great kids they are! (They are good all the time really in terms of what I consider good and bad)

Yesterday I went to an NBA game. We had to leave church early before the service was finished. Not because I had to leave, but because Nan had become quite ill. Flu. Blechhh!

So, we went home, Nan had some toast and then climbed into bed. Now I had a conundrum on my hands. I have a sick and ill wife in bed, two boys downstairs playing and I am supposed to leave for Toronto…

I asked Nan if I should stay home. No, she says. Go to the game. The boys will be fine.

I went and talked to the boys about it and they seemed very cool with holding down the fort while mommy slept. So, they did just that. William took a great phone message and they played well all afternoon. They watched a movie and then Mommy made them macaroni for supper.

What good boys. Sometimes I am concerned about Jackson. I mean, look at the eyes on the kid. They just scream “wait til you walk out that door mister, I am gonna get into some kind of trouble…. ” But they did just great. No major blow ups and they let Mom get better.

Squeak squeak, squeak

I had the opportunity to go to my first NBA game last night. We went to see the Toronto Raptors play the Sacramento Kings. In terms of games, it was ok. Toronto has no real amazing players right now so the wow factor was quite low.
It did go into overtime (which we did not stay for.. heard it in the car).

It was a good experience though. I enjoyed the atmosphere. The Air Canada Centre is an incredible place. Very nice. I must say that it did seem quite small to me though. The majority of the professional sporting events I have gone to are Argos games at the Rogers Centre (skydome) and it is monstrous…

But we went and enjoyed it just the same. Phil (my brother-in-law), my father-in-law and myself. good fun.

25 Years and counting

Posted by Dogfish

Last night we had the opportunity to go to a 25th wedding anniversary celebration. It was for a former boss of mine. What a great time we had.

It was so nice to catch up with some people I have not seen a quite some time. Something that blew me away was some of the connections that were there that I did not realize existed. For instance, Nan teaches piano to a young girl and lo and behold, her parents were there last night because this couple had been the youth leaders for the children of the couple celebrating their anniversary. Small world.

But, it was a great time. We saw lots of people, got out together for a few hours and celebrated God’s importance in a marriage. Awesome.

Somedays, being a parent sucks!

Posted by Dogfish

Yesterday was good. We had the joyous excitement of losing a tooth.
Today, we had to deal with the fact that our boy has not been focussing at school.
We gave him the ultimatum yesterday of focus or not watching our family movie this week.
Unfortunately, he decided not to focus.

I hate breaking my kid’s heart! It sucks! :frown:

But we gave the ultimatum and we both feel it would be worse to not follow through with our statement. He is only 6 years old, but he understands the concept of integrity and doing what is right.

It just hurts that’s all.

Latte Art

Posted by Dogfish

Isn’t it amazing that people can make art pieces with pretty much anything.
Well, almost anything? There was an artist in Canada, who a few years ago, tied a bunch of dead animals to trees in a forest in varying degrees of decay and called it art. Wrong.

But this would be my kind of art. It is called Latte Art.

Made with cream and espresso these are delightful. Not that I could ever do this this. I have a hard time making a drinkable latte, never mind one that LOOKS good.

Lunch with a friend

Posted by Dogfish

Yesterday I had lunch with a fine young man that I have never had lunch with. It was very enjoyable. Thanks man.

Something you said to me really stuck. We were discussing business and you said that many people forget to remember “tax free dollars”.

Thanks. I needed to hear that. First, incorporate. Second, remember “tax free dollars”. I have a lot of work to do I think.

Make it so number 1….

Posted by Dogfish

My wife posted today about tv watching and desiring something new to watch. I enjoy this new show that she found. It is quite humourous in an English sort of way.

But, my question is this… When in the world are we going to get to the point where we can speak to our computers and tell them we would like to watch a particular episode of our favourite show, or a great old movie, or have it read us a book, play music and tasks like that? Rather Star Trek like you say? Yes, I agree but someone has to be working on this somewhere in the world.

I know, I know, it won’t happen until there is world peace, and everyone is working for the betterment of the species. And the entertainment companies are willing to forego profits

Somehow, in the deep, dark recesses of my mind, I know I won’t be here for that. I don’t think any of us will. I see the human condition as worsening unfortunately. We are not getting better as a world, we are becoming more and more evil. In fact, I look forward to not being here for it.

About Me

    Some details about you.

I am just your average joe trying to make a living in this world. I sometimes wish I could go HOME now, but I know that I have been put here for a season and I am trying desperately to do my job while I am here.

    I really like Nan too....
