Coat of Arms

Posted by Dogfish

Somewhere in the deep, dark recesses of my mind I had a discussion with a friend of mine where we were discussing a book that he had read. It revolved around spending time with your kids and specifically your boys. One of the ideas that it had was to make a family crest and to promote it within your family.

I have discussed this my boys and they are all for it. They would even like to get a big one made and put up on the wall. I think that is awesome. So, I am going to be on the hunt for websites to help build family crests. If you have any ideas or links, fire ‘em off to me.

Another idea that this author had was that he had signet rings made for his sons when they left for college. Kind of a “don’t forget who you are and where you came from idea”. I really like that. Maybe we will do the same if we come up with a good design.

Rent

Posted by Dogfish

We watched RENT Saturday night. I have to say I was impressed, but not impressed.

I won’t give away the basis of the movie, but it revolved around a group of people who are for the most part, all drug addicts and are homosexuals and lesbians.

Things I liked about this movie:

  • The music was incredible. Boy could these actors sing.. Truly impressive.
  • The compassion that these characters showed for each other. I could learn a thing or two there.
  • The characters apparent transparency of their conditions and place in life.
  • Things I did not like about this movie:

  • I am not into the drug culture at all and really don’t like the fact that we are glamourizing it as a society. I think that this will lead to a very bad thing.
  • It really did speak to the issue of people who are called squatters and their rights. I am still mixed on this issue, as I believe that everyone should have the right to live somewhere, but I also don’t believe that said people should have the opportunity to live in abandoned buildings and then have the legal right to stay when the legal owners of these places would like to do something with their property.
  • That being said, I am not sure I would watch the movie again. It was sad to be perfectly honest. It was a good reminder that all of the world does not live like me, even though it was a portrayal and I realize it was not real people. I came away depressed from it I think.

You have got to be kidding me!

So, the boys have been sick most of the week. Poor Will went back to school Thursday morning and was sick to his stomach within the first hour!

I think that we are getting there. Jacks is still a little under the weather, but he is getting there. And then lo and behold right after I taught Sunday School this morning… I started feeling crappy again. Oh man! Are we ever gonna feel better as a family?

I sure hope so. I feel like we have been missing out on most of our life for the last few weeks.
    Sucky.

    Blessed to be the guy…

    Posted by Dogfish

So, I went out with my wife and two cousins tonight. Nan and I started the night by going out for sushi. Yum! :)

Then we went to Lindsay’s to hang out with Lindsay and Jill and play some board games. We were supposed to go to Phil and Heather’s but they were sick :(

So, anyways, we are sitting at Lindsay’s place and just hanging when the girls decided that they should practice for their singing at church in the next month or so. And so, I sat and listened to them.

Blessed to be the guy is not a sarcastic or nasty comment. It is the truth. I enjoy listening to these 3 ladies. They are all incredible. In fact, they blow me away at with the sincerity, love, and coolness.
I am blessed to be the guy that gets to hang out with them.

    More Blogs to come.

    Posted by Dogfish

A while ago, my wife Nan decided she wanted a blog. She has enjoyed it immensely thus far….

It would seem now that she has some of her friends from the boys’ school interested in starting their own blogs. Oh boy. She is a trend-setter huh?

I think I will ask her to start throwing around the idea of supporting web developers just for the fun of it. Maybe that will catch on and we can see some extra income come in. :)

    Good Cereal

    Posted by Dogfish

I was reminded today about how good this cereal is. I love it. I forgot that we are just about out of it. I had better get to the store and pick some up.

Oh yeah, and it’s good for ya.

    Further to the road trip….

    Posted by Dogfish

    Ok,
So, Topher wants me to go see him this summer and do a linux course with him. I asked him today what we would be doing in said course. Dunno he said…. Right now, it would be you and one other guy, so what do you want to learn??

Hmmm, can you teach me how to use linux to take over the world? That would be great!

    Road Trip?

    Posted by Dogfish

My friend Topher is going to be doing an “Intro to Linux” course in the summer. He asked me today if I wanted to go down for it.. I am very tempted. He is located in Grand Rapids and is a great guy. I learn alot from him.
Nan asked me if I needed to go. I already do linux. Well, kinda. I only do the easy stuff and I mean really, really easy…

Plus, he is in Grand Rapids. That is only like 30 minutes or so from Nan’s Aunt and Uncle’s place. They have always said we should go down and see them. Maybe we should do a family roadtrip?

    That might be fun ;)

    Stupid Rules!

    Posted by Dogfish

Some of you may know that Nan went and got her Tattoo for the Cure last night.
You can check out the pics here.

It is looks really good. It is a pink ribbon in honour of her mom.
When Nan came home, she had this little bag of goodies that the folks there gave her for being part of the campaign. Cute little things. A nice thermal mug, some tea, a shirt.
She also got this list of do’s and don’ts from the tattoo studio about how to care for the tattoo.
Some of the don’ts were ridiculous! So, I peeked and broke one other rule too :)

I think I am better off for doing that.

    About Me

      About

      Some details about you.

I am just your average joe trying to make a living in this world. I sometimes wish I could go HOME now, but I know that I have been put here for a season and I am trying desperately to do my job while I am here.

      I really like Nan too....
