Boy, it has been one of those months. I feel like I cannot keep my head above the water somedays. There is just so much to do. That is not bad, it is just the reality of life.
Nan and I are going to see the latest X-Men movie on Wednesday night with friends hopefully. That will be cool.

ok, I found a couple of programs that look like they will fix my little issue with my treo needing me to reset the unit on a daily basis.. I will install it sometime this weekend and give ‘er a go…
It basically restarts the unit at a daily fixed time. It also can turn off my phone part of the treo for predetermined amounts of time throughout the day. (a la 11 at night to 7 in the morning when I should be sleeping….)

A while back I changed cell phones. I decided after a fair amount of thought to go with the Treo 650 by Palm One. This is my quick and easy review after having the phone/pda for a couple of months.

First of all, it is a lot more stable than any pocketpc device I have ever seen. Period. That is great. That being said, I had a pocket pc before and had to buy a bunch of programs to get back to the point where I felt I was being productive again with this new phone.
I love the fact that it is a converged device that allows me to use a phone, get my email, keep my schedule, snap pics, and read books on. I felt like a dufus carrying around 2 or 3 items of technology before. It is nice to have one and one only.
The size of the is good. Think of an Aero chocolate bar and make it one and a half times its width and you will pretty much be bang on. I have a friend that told me he will never buy a cellphone that will fit in his mouth. Good advice
I have one little qualm with my treo… it seems that a daily reset seems to work the best on it. Not that that is a big deal but sometimes, it tends to hang up on itself when it is going out to get email. That really is the biggest issue I have had as of yet. I think I will try to find a little program that will allow me to do a soft reset from the OS so I don’t need to uncover the back to get to the reset button.
On the whole, I love it.

Ever feel that you just need to get away?
Nan and I were feeling that way for the last month or so and have the wonderful opportunity to go away this past weekend for a couple of nights while Dad McGrath had the boys.
First of all, THANK YOU SO MUCH Dad! We love the boys but boy oh boy was it nice to get away.
Friday night, we dropped the boys off at Dad’s place. Jackson threw up when we got there because he was nervous. After being told the “plan” for the weekend, he was in better spirits and was okay. It certainly stressed us out a bit though.
Then we drove up to St Jacobs. Awesome little town to visit. I believe that the original intent of the tourism deal in this town is based on the fact that they have a farmer’s market on Tuesdays and Saturdays that has a good number of Amish Mennonites there selling their wares and goods. There are all sorts of little shops in downtown St. Jacobs and an outlet shopping centre or two. It’s a good place to spend a day.
So after missing the turn for our hotel, we decided to have dinner first at the Stone Crock. It was good. A more “earthy” meal I would call it. Yummy.
From there, we went to our hotel and Dad had surprised us with a fruit and cheese tray. (which we did not touch until the next day because we were so stuffed….) The hotel was very nice. We sat in their whirlpool for a bit. Here is a pic of the hotel.

The next morning we lazed around a bit, had their breakfast, Nan played the grand piano in their foyer, and then packed up and headed out for some shopping.
Man, did we shop! I am almost embarassed to say that I enjoyed it immensely!!!
We did the factory outlet thing, ate our lunch of cheese and fruit
and then tackled the farmer’s market in the afternoon. What a blast!
Nan and I were saying that my parents would love coming to this. Then we got the idea that we should have a contest between Mom and I to see who could buy the best food and make a nice meal. I told my mom after the weekend and she was all for it! Go figure.
After the farmer’s market, we went to a bed and breakfast for our second evening away. It is called the Maryhill Inn and it is in the village of MaryHill (strange huh?)

It was delightful. We have never stayed at a bed and breakfast before but I would do it again no problem.
What a great time. It was busy but we also had time to just chill out together and spend time. I love that woman o’ mine. She is incredible. I’ll spend time with her anytime she wants.

My friend Topher got me onto a new webhosting scenario last week. I went for it and am trying to get used to the system. All I can say is Topher is a really good friend to put up with all the questions that I keep firing at him…
The guy is awesome. Thanks man.
I wish that we lived closer to Topher. He is just a cool guy and I would love to hang with him.

Our friends Paul and Jackie took the boys for the weekend. It was their son Tyler’s 9th birthday and our boys were invited over for a sleepover weekend. Nan and I were talking today and I think that last time we had an overnight without the boys was last year in March. We might have had one since then, but neither of us could remember. It was so much fun.
Ok, I just have to say here that all you other guys out there cannot possibly have the best wives in the world. Because I do! My Nan is awesome. She is tenderhearted, lovely, funny as all get out when she lets her hair down and she is downright gorgeous!!!!
Saturday, after I dropped the boys in Brantford, I picked Nan up from her bookclub. We had a bite to eat at Applebees in Kitchener, did a little shopping and made our way home. I had a slight modification to make to the shower in the afternoon so I got that done. After that we just chilled out till the evening when we went to Mission Impossible III. Great movie. I am not a big Tom Cruise fan, but the movie was well done, had good action sequences and at least one twist that I did not see coming. (Ok, I can be dense sometimes, but I still enjoyed it.)
The cool part about the movie is that we got to go with our friends Kurt and Anita. I like these guys so much. They are so fun to hang with. We have not seen them much lately just because of the business of life and other stuff. But it was so nice to connect with them.
After the movie, we went out for a snack and did not get home till after midnight! That is unheard of in this household!
So, it was a great weekend. We have the boys home now and in bed. They stayed up til 10:30 last night and are exhausted. Good for them. They had a blast. So did we. What a great weekend. Thanks Lord for a great life.

This weekend, I participated in the 30 Hr Famine at our church with the youth group. It was an experience to say the least. We started our famine at 3:00 in the morning Saturday so we could finish Sunday morning at 9:00 and have breakfast together.
It was a good time. The youth had fun I think. We hung out at the church for the most part, and played games and did some gardening work. We had a service Saturday night where some of the girls led a worship time and then a couple of the guys did a couple numbers for their band. Then my friend Jude St. John spoke on being a champion. It was great.
I faired okay I think. You’d better ask Nan that actually. I might have been a real grump and not know it.
Anyhow, we raised around $1200 for World Famine Relief. I think that is great for about a dozen or so youth.

I am trying a different linux server software today. So far so good. It is SME Server 7.
It basically does what ClarkConnect does but the backup feature is not as rich. That is okay. I am looking for a software that allows me to put a “scrubber” in place for clients. This one might just be it.
It does fetchmail, all of the email accounts, has a passthrough for exchange boxes if I would like, has spamassassin and clamav antivirus. Looking good I think. I only have to figure out how to connect to it from an external source. Clarkconnect runs their own dns service for this so I just have to think that one through….
