Well, I flipped from ADSL to Cable internet today. What a difference!
I have been getting increasingly frustrated with my dsl provider as of late. I have been paying through the nose and not really getting much service.
So, cable it is. It is up and running. I will leave it for the weekend to ensure no major issues and then I will get rid of the dsl.
Next stop, Vonage VOIP and then to ditch Bell for the land line.
Nice.

Ok, so vonage….
$20 a month.
500 long distance minutes throughout North America.
Caller ID
Voicemail
Rollover if internet is down to cellphone
at least 10 other features…
$20 a month. I don’t see the catch.

OK, we figured out that internet, phone and cable costs us about $140 a month. Too much dude….
So, I think by switching to cable internet and Vonage VOIP phone we can knock that down by at least $35 a month. That’s significant considering if we were to add on all the services you get with Vonage onto our current phone, we would be paying about $200 a month. Now that is steep.
Stay tuned

Nan went to spend the night with Jackie last night at a bed and breakfast in St. Jacobs.
The boys and I were alone. Will went to a pizza party at the church and got home around 9:30.
Jackson and I played some X-box and then he tucked into bed.
This morning, the boys had pizza for breakfast. Oh dear… what would Nan say
William and I have not seen the movie Cars in its entirety so we are watching it this morning.
Nan is due back later this afternoon so until then we are just making fun “buy memories”

No one likes feeling sick. My poor wife has been sick for the better part of a week now. She is not really happy about it.
The boys have little bits of colds and no one in the house is sleeping well. I think we are close to losing it on each other
If one gets sick, so do the others generally.
Kind of reminds me of the borg…
We are the borg, you will be assimilated, resistance is futile…
hmm.. we have colds, you will be assimilated, resistance is futile, prepare to cough..

OK, so now I need to begin to move from ftp to scp… I hear ya Topher, security is king!
However, I do NOT like the fact that there is not a good all around wysiwyg web page editor for linux. I use Dreamweaver and I will readily admin that it is a canned product but I like it. I have used it for a few years now and I enjoy working in it.
I have not seen anything in linux that can compare really. Too bad really.

I have been using a linux operating system on my laptop lately. I have been asking my friend Topher all sorts of questions about it.
I found some software today that I think will help me move forward more with using this platform on a daily basis.
Kasablanca - a full featured ftp client and
Bluefish - a full featured web page designing software.
This way I should be able to do any webpage authoring that I would like to. I generally use Dreamweaver and CuteFTP but alas they are not available in linux.
Bluefish does not have the feature set that Dreamweaver does. But Bluefish is free. hmmmm
Kasablanca looks like it will do pretty much anything CuteFTP will do.
More to follow.

We had a really good time in Belleville this weekend with my family.
My home church had it’s 50th anniversary so it was nice to see some of the old guard there.
I had hoped to catch up with Bruce Mackay when there but he ducked out of church as soon as the prayer was done.
Bummer.
Bruce, we are coming down at Christmas and I would love to hook up with you and catch up.
Paul, I thought you were going to be there and was looking forward to throwing verbal jabs at each other for at least a few minutes
Ah, the things we look forward to on weekends.
All in all, it was a great weekend except for the fact that my dear wife was sick for the whole time. She has a nasty cold and was feeling quite under the weather. I wish I could have done something for her, but alas I could not.
It was also nice to touch base with my parents, my aunt and my brother.
Good times.

and off to Gramma’s house we go!
We are off to Belleville this weekend. Parkdale Baptist Church is having their 50th Anniversary weekend and we were invited. The boys are excited about seeing their Grandparents and their uncle and great-Aunt.
Jackson and Nan are off to a doctor’s appointment shortly after 9 this morning. They will drop me off at a client’s and I will work for the morning there. After the doc’s, Jackson wants to be back to the school by 10:40 for the Remembrance Day assembly. He told me this morning that he would like to go to a cenotaph sometime for a service. I think I will make that a priority next year. What an amazing little man he is. Last Sunday, it was a mission that he had to find all of the veterans in our church and thank them personally for their sacrifice. I could not have been prouder.
William and his class are doing something for the Assembly this morning at school. He wrote a poem that they will be reciting…
War is…
It smells like gasoline…
It sounds like explosions everywhere…
It feels like you won’t see another morning…
War is the death of loved ones…
I have two amazing young men on my hands.

Corner Gas is definitely a funny show. It reminds me a lot of the little village Thomasburg that I grew up in. Oscar reminds me of Fred Preston. Oh man, he reminds of him…
Nan and I watch it every week. I think the reason that we enjoy it so much is the type of humour that Brent Butt and his co-workers use. Very dry and cool.
Love it.
