I had an interesting comment made to me a couple of weeks ago.
I had dropped in to my friend Jude’s house and was looking at his broken computer.
They had decided to get rid of their old trampoline from their backyard and replace it. They have 5 kids, and about a hundred nieces and nephews. Well, not that many, but quite a few. This trampoline is TIRED.
So, they asked if we wanted it.
When Jude and Nicole bought their first house, they came into the possession of two tree fort / climbers. We ended up taking one from them and refitting it for our backyard. It has been a wonderful thing for our kids and the neighbourhood kids as well.
Two weeks ago, Jude and Nicole said, “hey, you fix things up! do you want this old one?”
Yup. I will fix it up. One leg requires some tlc but I think it will be great for Will and Jacks.
(just think of the fun they will have “force pushing” each other while swinging their light sabers and and bouncing up and down to boot.
I got to thinking today…. When did I become this guy who fixes things up?
For the longest time I remember being the kid who took things apart and let my little brother put them back together again. (sorry for all those times by the way Doug) Now I seem to be willing to take on these projects to fix things that might have some life left in them.
Could it be that living on the farm and having to make things work actually rubbed off on me?
Could it be that I have actually grown up to see things like my Dad does? ( I always remember Dad fixing things on the farm. Even if he could not figure it out, we had great friends with tons of farming experience who helped him.)
Strange, I kind of like fixing things now. I was not like that in my early years I don’t think….

Man, I am a blogging machine today!
I was just thinking about coffee. I really like it.
Our friends, Blair and Jude Henry are going to be working in Africa next year for a few months and are starting to do some fundraising for their time over there.
They have an aquaintance whose parents run a coffee plantation in Africa. Blair and Jude are selling coffee for them to do some fundraising. We received a pound of coffee from them recently and we have been enjoying it.
If you would like to buy some, let me know and I will hook you up.
Tasty stuff.

When I went to the Internet Ministry Conference a couple of weeks ago, I was astounded by the number of MACs there. The percentage had to be close to 50. So it got me to thinking about the whole debate again and whether I needed to make a change.
Here are the conclusions I have come up with…
1. I do not feel that I want to buy another computer right now. Much less an expensive one. I know that the life cycle on the MAC may be longer but the upfront investment is certainly greater as well.
2. I do NOT want to have to think about repurchasing my software for MAC! Holy smokes that would be expensive.
3. I work in a PC world. None of my clients run MAC that I know of and the lion’s share of my business is done on PC
4. I am so used to PC that I think the change might be difficult for me. ( you know, hard to teach an old dog…..)
5. I do not have time to learn a new operating system. I tried to do this with Linux last year and it was a bust. I did not have the time to dedicate to getting used to it and I do not have any more time now.
So, I will stick with PC for now. You know, if my ship came in, I would probably get one to tinker with, but I do not see that happening any time soon.
But I will say this for MAC. They have created a good niche in the market. They are REALLY cool. That is for sure. They are ROCK solid. But so is Linux.
If it weren’t for the fact that I am so ingrained into Microsoft’s way of doing things, I would change in a heartbeat I think.

I stayed up late and watched an old movie last night. Good times.
After we were all up this morning, Nan took off for the grocery store to do a shop and the boys and I built a lovely little gate to put in the office for the puppy as of Tuesday night.
The only thing we do not yet have but is coming is dog food. But the breeder gives us a weeks worth when we pick Taffy up.
This afternoon we had the Bookers over for a couple of hours. This young couple has taken on the Tuesday night bible study for the youth in our church. They seem to be connecting with them nicely. We were able to sit down and plan out the once-a-month social events for the next 6 months. Looks like it is going to be a good year. We are hoping to take the youth to a Snow Camp at Muskoka Baptist Conference in February. Should be fun.
After the Bookers left the 4 of us sat around and played a good old fashioned game of Sorry! What a good game.
Dinner is close to ready now.
After dinner is chillin’ with the family, some relax time, go over the Sunday School lesson for tomorrow, and night night.
What a wonderful Saturday

Ok, so last night we watched the season premiere of “The Unit”. At least I think it was the season premiere.
I am not a huge TV watcher, but I do have my favourites.
Heroes, CSI, CSI New York, The Unit, Journeyman (so far anyways…)
I do NOT particularly like CSI Miami. David Caruso???? Uh uh. Me no likey.
Anyhoooo, “The Unit’ was good. I enjoyed it. Honestly, it was just nice to sit in the den with my beautiful wife, eat some popcorn and enjoy each other’s company.

Jack and I figured out today at lunch how long it is until we leave to go pick Taffy up!
Can you tell that we are excited?

Well, it was a little slow.
Heroes season premiere did not grab me like the last time I watched it.
I do however, want to know who the 9 are as Hiro’s father alluded to…
hmmmm

Nan and I are watching a couple of season premieres tonight.
Heroes is one of them and the other one is Journeyman.
So far, I am liking Journeyman. It closely resembles a book that Nan read called “The Time Traveller’s Wife”
Interesting concept of a person who travels back and forth in time.
Not like that show that had Scott Bakula in it. What was the name of that one anyways????
In this one, the main character does not know why he is travelling and is having a hard time convincing his wife that he is not reverting into a drug-haunted lifestyle that he has walked away from at some point in his life.
Should be an interesting show.
Next is Heroes. We taped them both last night and I successfully did not talk to anyone about them today to keep the suspense just a little bit longer.
It is gonna be good!
and then, tomorrow night should be the season premiere of CSI. Oh boy, I am not sure how much work I am going to get done in the evenings this week.
