There has always been a lot of discussion in church around the evils of Hallowe’en.
Nan and I have had some major discussion about it over the last 15 years.
This is what we have come to. I really have NO issue whatsoever with my two boys dressing up and going out to get candy. They do not dress up as ghouls and goblins or other evil things…. Will is dressing up like Gambit ( a cartoon character from the X-men), and Jackson is dressing up as Darth Vader. I am totallly ok with this.
They will be walking around with friends of theirs and their mothers. I do not think that there is anything wrong with this.
The boys realize that there is evil in the world. I want to be a parent that makes them aware of the pitfalls that are out there. I do not wish to be a parent that is fearful enough to keep my children under lock and key for fear that they are exposed to something. Believe me when I tell you that they will be exposed whether I want them to be or not. That is part of living in society. I want to show them truth and have them apply that to their lives whenever and wherever they can. That is my job. I need to enable my children with good information, wise sounding boards, and approachability so they can begin to make wise decisions on their own.
I look forward to seeing all the little kids come to the door dressed up in their cute little costumes. The really young ones are the best. 2-3 year olds that can’t even remember to say “Trick or Treat”. They are the best. They cautiously come to your door (quite often with an older sibling) and look at you with puppy-dog eyes that say
Hello. I really am new to all of this. If you would please allow me to have some sugar, I will kindly be on my way to pilfer the next available house with my cute looks and innocent demeanor… Thank you for understanding that I am the cutest kid in the world
Hallowe’en is fun for me. Not evil.

Hmmm. I never really enjoyed mornings that much before. Sure, when I was at camp, it was nice to get up and go down to the waterfront in the morning and paddle for a bit, but we are talking about the middle of suburbia now….
I have been getting up a little earlier as of late to kind of lend a hand to Nan with the puppy. I have to say that I am kind of enjoying it a little more now. Not sure why, but I am. Strange.

the puppy and the cat met face to face for the first time tonight.
I really expected sparks if not fur to fly.
Nope, they both behaved like little ladies…

Taffy is making good friends with all of the neighbourhood kids.
The young girl who lives next door went shopping for her birthday this past weekend and bought Taffy a sweater.
How adorable.

Blech. I was supposed to release a new website for a client last week. It did not because I was dealing with SSL certificate issues. I thought we would be ready this morning but alas, we will not be. Crap!
Oh well, the client is an understanding person. It is not my fault really, I just feel that I wanted to make the deadline.
We shall see today what comes of it.

I thought we bought a puppy.
When dry, she is a big fluffball.
See below…

But put her in the sink for a bath and you get an instant rat!!!

Well, I think we might be getting there…
Taffy is starting to settle in nicely into our family.
This morning, Nan got up at 6:15 to put her out and do her reading. I followed at around 6:30.
She is such a funny little thing. When you come down the stairs she is so excited to see you! It is almost like she shakes ALL over!
She seems to be getting the hang of using the washroom outside and has not had too many mishaps as of late.
Now that we are starting to trust her a little more, we have allowed her out of the office and into the family room.
This morning, Nan and I were able to sit and chat about things while the puppy lie on the floor playing with a toy or two.
Hopefully by Christmas time she will not require as much constant watching.

I am thankful for….
My relationship with Jesus
My family
My church
My job
My friends
There are so many things that I am thankful for. I would like to think that I am not just thankful on Thanksgiving weekend. I realize that I am blessed in so many ways. I cannot begin to write the many blessings down…
