As with most blogs, links are the norm.
I read Topher’s blog.
He in turns reads Coffee Klatch.
As I was perusing said site this morning, I came across this listing of quotes.
They come from a time when words were wittier without being vulgar.

I like it. I need to grow my vocabulary more.

“He has all the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire.”
- Winston Churchill

“I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure.”
- Clarence Darrow

“He has never been known to use a word that might send a reader to the dictionary.”
- William Faulkner (about Ernest Hemingway)

“I’ve had a perfectly wonderful evening. But this wasn’t it.”
- Groucho Marx

“I didn’t attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it.”
- Mark Twain

“He has no enemies, but is intensely disliked by his friends.”
- Oscar Wilde

“I am enclosing two tickets to the first night of my new play; bring a friend. If you have one.”
- George Bernard Shaw to Winston Churchill.
followed by
Churchill’s response: “Cannot possibly attend first night, will attend second, if there is one.”
- Winston Churchill

“I feel so miserable without you; it’s almost like having you here.”
- Stephen Bishop

“He is a self-made man and worships his creator.”
- John Bright

“I’ve just learned about his illness. Let’s hope it’s nothing trivial.”
- Irvin S. Cobb

“He is not only dull himself; he is the cause of dullness in others.”
- Samuel Johnson

“He is simply a shiver looking for a spine to run up.”
- Paul Keating

“He had delusions of adequacy.”
- Walter Kerr

“Why do you sit there looking like an envelope without any address on it?”
- Mark Twain

“His mother should have thrown him away and kept the stork.”
- Mae West

“Some cause happiness wherever they go; others, whenever they go.”
- Oscar Wilde

Lady Astor once remarked to Winston Churchill at a dinner party, “Winston, if you were my husband, I would poison your coffee!” Winston replied, “Madam, if I were your husband I would drink it!”

Lady Astor also once remarked to Winston Churchill at a dinner party, “Sir Winston, you’re drunk!” To which, Winston replied, “Yes, Madam, I am. And you’re ugly! But in the morning, I will be sober. And you will still be ugly!”

The language in our culture and society today has nothing on the days of old.
You may disagree, but I am a romantic and will not be swayed in my thinking or opinion so ppppphhhhhhhhhh!

edit: I will not vouch for the absolute infalibility of any site I link to here. I cannot control anyone’s mouth if they say bad things. Please don’t blame me.

5 questions

Posted by Dogfish

One of the sessions at the conference that Nan and I went to a couple of weeks ago now was put on my a company called 5Q Communications.
Neither Nan or I got to their session but we were able to pick up there propaganda sheets in the exhibitors hall.
One of their sheets that caught my attention was 5 questions that CHANGE the web.
Here is an quote off the sheet:

Creating an effective web site starts with asking the right questions. Before launching into any project, 5Q starts with careful analysis that helps clients discover the keys to developing an effective site.

1. Who is your audience?
2. How do you define success?
3. What is the primary action?
4. Do your design and text communicate effectively?
5. Are your systems integrated and compliant?

Very interesting. I think that this is something I need to keep in mind when walking any client through the process of web development.

Settling in

Posted by Dogfish

Taffy continues to settle in. She sure does go to the bathroom a lot though!

I bought her a different crate today. We were given one by someone but it was a plastic crate and she could not easily see out of it. I bought a wire one today and she likes it enough that she just crawled in and is having a little nap :)

Mommy and the boys are off to AWANA and I am working in the office this evening.
Woohoo! Breakfast with my friend Rich tomorrow, quick run out to Teen Challenge to pick up a paper I left there, then back to the office to work, work work!

The long weekend is coming up and there is lots to do!

Pics of da pooch.

Posted by Dogfish

Well, here she is.

This is when Jacks first got his hands on here

Jacks and Will enjoying the pickup time.

In the car settling down on the way home.

What a pretty little thing.

Relaxing against William’s leg and getting used to us people..

It was spitting out this morning, but Jacks was a trooper and took her out…

Having a little time with the poochie before breakfast.

Boy, all that interaction sure tires a girl out!

Home from the kennel

Posted by Dogfish

We were able to surprise Jackson and William today with the fact that we were going to get Taffy from the kennel a day early.
When the boys were dismissed from school today Nan and I were there to pick them up and drive them home. William had participated in a birthday party for his teacher today and had been finishing off a 2 litre bottle of orange crush and had spilled some on his shirt (can you say sugar high????)
When we got into the car, I said something about being ready for picking the pup up tomorrow. Jackson replied in the affirmative that he was all set for tomorrow. Then I asked if he would prefer to pick her up today…
He was dumbfounded and really could not say a whole lot. It was kind of neat. Then he really got excited!
So, we came home, Will changed his shirt and we took off for Blyth. Nan stayed at home because she was teaching piano this aft.
We got there at 10 to 5 and were out of there by 5:05. Back home by 6:20 with a stop at Petcetera for a dog toy and dog shampoo.

Nan was able to settle her in for a few minutes then had to head out to teach again. Mondays are one of her busiest days.
The boys and I ate, then did some homework and played for a bit with Taffy.

When Nan got home tonight from teaching, we gave her a bath in the kitchen sink. She is so tiny…
We did not get any pictures of this, but next time we will.
I will post some pictures tomorrow hopefully.
If I get enough sleep tonight….
We will see.

About Me

    About

    Some details about you.

I am just your average joe trying to make a living in this world. I sometimes wish I could go HOME now, but I know that I have been put here for a season and I am trying desperately to do my job while I am here.

    I really like Nan too....
