Rent

Posted by Dogfish

We watched RENT Saturday night. I have to say I was impressed, but not impressed.

I won’t give away the basis of the movie, but it revolved around a group of people who are for the most part, all drug addicts and are homosexuals and lesbians.

Things I liked about this movie:

  • The music was incredible. Boy could these actors sing.. Truly impressive.
  • The compassion that these characters showed for each other. I could learn a thing or two there.
  • The characters apparent transparency of their conditions and place in life.
  • Things I did not like about this movie:

  • I am not into the drug culture at all and really don’t like the fact that we are glamourizing it as a society. I think that this will lead to a very bad thing.
  • It really did speak to the issue of people who are called squatters and their rights. I am still mixed on this issue, as I believe that everyone should have the right to live somewhere, but I also don’t believe that said people should have the opportunity to live in abandoned buildings and then have the legal right to stay when the legal owners of these places would like to do something with their property.
  • That being said, I am not sure I would watch the movie again. It was sad to be perfectly honest. It was a good reminder that all of the world does not live like me, even though it was a portrayal and I realize it was not real people. I came away depressed from it I think.

I watched the Transporter 2 last night.
Sometimes I enjoy a good beat ‘em up, drive fast, the good guys always win action flic.

This one was okay.. yeah, just okay. No real amazing plot to speak of really, just the usual plot. Good action though.

    Excited about not seeing it…

So, we have decided that over the Christmas Holidays that William will in some form, have the opportunity to see Narnia in the theatre. Jackson will not.

Jackson got freaked out in Veggie Tales Lord of the Beans. I am not sure where he got this fear of things that he has. It is rather strange really. I think that he just really gets into stories while watching them on the screen. Even something small can set him off. It is strange as I said.

So, Jackson knows that he will not be going to the theatre to see the movie. But, bless his heart he is still excited for his brother and wants to play Narnia with him all the time.

He is a great kid. I love him so much.

    Episode III and me…

I watched the third episode of the Star Wars series again the other night. I really did enjoy it. Technically, it was the best movie of all the movies. But, I have to say that is definitely the darkest of all the movies as well.

George Lucas did a good job finishing up this series. It has been a long time coming, but he did it nonetheless. He tied up all the loose ends in just under 2 and a quarter hours. Wow, he was moving to do that. I dunno. I think it was almost too finished though. It didn’t have that cheesey look of some of the others did. I kind of missed that.

Dare I say it. I think I may be growing out of these movies. (I know, I know, there are gasps of horror from all of you fanatics!!)

I enjoyed Batman Begins more than this Star Wars movie. It was a far superior film in dealing with the psyche of the hero. Don’t get me wrong. I still love all the Star Wars characters but I don’t love them in a dress up and play starwars kind of way anymore. I guess I am growing up.

Now, Batman, that is another story. I love that guy. I might even ask for some Batman Underoos for Christmas…..
