Golfing

Posted by Dogfish

I was able to get out for the first time this year to golf this morning.
It was not pretty. In fact, it was pretty ugly to be honest.

I will not tell you what I shot. Suffice to say that I will be working on getting used to these new clubs for a bit I think. At least that is my excuse.

I was able to get out with a fella from our church. Dr. Bill. Good times. We had some great conversation and were able to laugh at ourselves and repeat the mantra many times….

it’s the first time out this season, it’s the first time out this season….

Sick.

Posted by Dogfish

I am sick.
Even worse, Jackson is sick as well.

We went to church yesterday morning, taught Sunday School, then came home.
We pretty much sat on the couch the whole day feeling blechy…

Blech.

We did get to watch the Grey Cup though. That was good. Saskatchewan beat Winnipeg. Good game. It was a good thing that Kevin Glenn was out. I honestly believe that Winnipeg would have won with their big quarterback on the field.

Worst golf game ever!

Posted by Dogfish

So an aquaintance of mine invited me to his club on Tuesday of this week to golf.

It was the hardest course I have ever played. The majority of the greens have 4-6 foot drops. Yikes.
Shot a 112. Brutal. brutal, brutal brutal….

Oh well, it was a stunning course. The club is 108 years old and everything is mature. Wonderful to play. I really enjoyed playing with the fellas that were there. Good times. Worst game played, but still a good time.

Even a bad game of golf is a good time. :)

Great deal at the driving range.

Posted by Dogfish

We have been enjoying going to the driving range as a family this year. Last year, we were able to purchase some kids golf clubs for the boys and they are really enjoying them.

This year, I was able to convince my wife that she would be good at this game so she purchased a set of clubs for herself. You should see her form… it makes me ill how good her form is…

Anyhow, yesterday, Nan wanted to get to the driving range. We decided to go to a new range here in our fine city. It is called Kilaly East Practice Facility. They are just starting out but they have this great deal on. We are part of the Tradebank group and have some barter dollars to use. We can use them here! So, for $150 in trade, we were able to get a family membership for the whole year! Awesome. All 4 of us, as many balls as we want for the whole season.

The range is only 15 minutes from the house so it is very easy to get to.
The range is a little rougher than most but they are just starting out in business. I am sure that it will get better with age.
Right on. You gotta love savin’ money huh?

Sad Realization for me.

Posted by Dogfish

I have come to a sad realization in the last week or two.

I am not destined to be a excellent golfer. I might become a mediocre one at some point, but I simply do not have the time nor the resources to put into becoming a good let alone excellent golfer.

William and I and a couple of friends went golfing yesterday and on one hole, Will shot a par. I was very proud of him. He was simply ecstatic.

Maybe he could.. I dunno. I just have to continue to realize that I play the game for enjoyment, not to beat myself up. That is just stupid.

Took me long enough to figure it out.

Took you long enough!

I enjoy the game of golf.
In fact, I would tend to call it a passion really.

I am not very good at the game though. I have what I thought was a terrible slice. It is not indeed a slice I found out this week.

One of my clients has been an avid golfer for 40 years and I was lamenting to him about my terrible slice.
He said he could fix it with 15 minutes on the driving range. So, 3 days later, they we were, me in my dress pants and good shoes at the driving range with my client.

Man, this guy is good. He picked my driver up and was hitting a consistent 200-230 straight down the fairway and making it look easy.

It turns out I do not have a slice. I have a straight push. Oh yeah, a straight push… Whatever Don, it still sucks!

10 minutes later, I am consistently starting to hit a great deal better. I might have a 5-10 degree sway but for the most part, I would be good on any fairway with that.

Last night, I went to the driving range. It is so much nicer going there when you have something tangible to work on. I had two goals… Driving straight and a consistent 175-200. That I am doing now. I just have to remember the tips my friend gave me. Secondly, I want to figure out which club I can hit for consistent results. I have NEVER been consistent with any of my clubs. Lo and behold, when I swing the way my client instructed me too….. consistency..

Stupid game. I am not sure why I like it so much.

Olympics!

Posted by Dogfish

Man, I am so pumped! As a kid, I really loved watching the Olympics when they were on. It hasn’t changed… I must admit that I am a bit of a fair weather olympics person though. I don’t always know all the athletes but when the event comes round I sure do feel like cheering on!

So, GO CANADA!!!!
I think it is going to be great.

Keeeeyahhhh!

Imagine my delight, when we went to Karate last night, and we found out the boys are elible to be tested for their next belts this Friday night! It means they are doing well! Yay!

I have been wondering a bit the last few weeks how much has been soaking in. There have been a couple or three times that I have seen some flying kicks going on. They have not been teaching that though.

The boys are absolutely pumped! This would be a first belt graduation for Jackson and a second for Will.

Should be fun.
