The long long road

Posted by Dogfish

I am sick with a cold. Blech…. I do not like being sick. It normally takes me a long time to recover from colds. boooooo!!!!

The snow is coming down outside and we are supposed to get up to 6 inches today. Will the insanity ever stop??????

I am so looking forward to spring. I am beginning to understand the feelings that snowbirds get every year. Yep, I am getting old.

Great weekend!

Posted by Dogfish

Man, what a blur this weekend was!
Friday morning, I went to meet a client and got home around 11:30 for lunch. We had lunch with the boys and got them back to school for the afternoon. Then we packed for the weekend. Well, Nan packed and I continued to work away. When the boys got home, it was a mad dash to get them packed up along with the dog and over to the Koehler’s house. We finally got them there (after forgetting a few things and waiting on boys being let out of school later than usual), dropped them all off and boogey’d on up to the church.

Pretty much everyone was there and ready to roll. The weather was simply horrible. Nan had google mapped our destination and it was to take us 4.5 hours to get to Parry Sound for the youth retreat. It ended up takeing 7.5. Brutal. absolutely brutal. But, it turned out so good.

We arrived late, had a snack with all of the other late-arriving groups and hit the sack. The next morning we were up and at ‘em with the rest of the groups and having so much fun. The sessions were excellent. Jay Sandiford, the speaker from Stouffville was very good. He was talking about how we are supposed to JUMP into what God wants for us. Sometimes at retreats, the message can be a little watery or fluffy. Not this time. Jay was really straight forward about what he said and was backing it all up scripturally. It was a real relief for Nan, Joel, Christina and I. Good solid teaching… yes!

We were able to spend some time praying with each other and other leaders which was great. Some of the youth were asking really really good questions about life, God and how the two mix.

The youth had a blast! Lots of outdoor activities in the snow, good food, fun times. I have been informed that we are going next year again already. That is cool. I look forward to it.

We left the camp at around 12:45 Sunday and made it to the church for around 5 pm. Thank you Lord for an uneventful, DRY trip! Got all the youth hooked up with the parents, went to John and Christine’s for dinner (thanks John, the lasagna was delish man), took the boys and dog home, got them settled in for the night and went to bed early ourselves.

What a fantastic weekend.

Ah Spring….

Posted by Dogfish

It was absolutely lovely out yesterday. Last night after dinner, the boys got their scooters out and Nan and I put on our running shoes and we went for a nice walk. It was a little treacherous at times on the sidewalk because of the melting snow and ice but it was just a wonderful night to do it.

This morning after breakfast we did it again. The boys took their bikes this time. Good stuff, because we can walk at a more brisk pace that way :)

Anyhow, this morning, I would say that there was only a quarter of the snow left that was there last night. Glorious…

And they are calling for rain today! Yippee! Melt all the snow!!!

Can you tell I am ready for spring?

Snow today…

Posted by Dogfish

They are forecasting snow today and tomorrow.
These are the days of year that I really don’t like.
I think I ought to move to Bermuda or something. I am really not fond of snow.

My boys like snow. Because they have snowboards. I used to love snow when I went skiing as a younger person.

Hmmm. Looking forward to Spring already.

Sigh…

Fickleness, thy name is weather!

Oh for pity sake! Make up your mind will you?

Snow, melt, rain, sun, snow, melt, rain, sun, snow, melt, rain, sun!

If we are to have winter, then let’s have it!
I am not a huge lover of snow, but this is getting ridiculous. We have had an ok amount of snow this year, but it has not lasted. :(

Somedays I wish I lived on the East Coast of Canada. They have gotten close to a foot and a half in the last few days. Then again, I like Spring and Fall the best.

A gentleman down the street (we call him Mr. No Grass… I will explain another time) is a psychiatrist I believe or something like that. He went to Stanford University and was and still is I presume a friend of another chap. This fella did some neat research. He came up with a theory by adding up all of the munitions used during the first two world wars and the testing of atomic weapons in the Bimini Atoll. He then mapped it out on a globe and tried to determine the effect of these blasts on the earth’s rotation. He says that it put the earth off by point something of a degree of its axis. This in turn, he surmises has begun the movement of weather patterns across the globe in an easterly track. After researching for I am sure countless weeks on end, he has come to the hypothesis that within the next hundred years or so, Ontario may well be receiving British Columbia type weather.

Interesting to say the least. While we won’t receive the same rain because we do not live on an ocean, it would be nice to see flowers in March or maybe even February. Who cares if I have to drive 12 hours north to find a ski slope.

Good Day Sunshine

Posted by Dogfish

It is sunny out today! It is about time! Man, it seems that it has not been sunny in about a month.. Honestly, it was really starting to depress me. They say that you need Vitamin D to stay healthy and happy. It comes from getting into the sun. I think that most of us right now are vitamin D deficient….

Glad the ol’ man is back.

Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine

I need to laugh, and when the sun is out
I’ve got something I can laugh about
I feel good, in a special way
I’m in love and it’s a sunny day

Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine

We take a walk, the sun is shining down
Burns my feet as they touch the ground

Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine

Then we lie beneath a shady tree
I love her and she’s loving me
She feels good, she know she’s looking fine
I’m so proud to know that she is mine

Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine
Good day sunshine

And so it begins…

Posted by Dogfish

We got dumped on last night. 6-8 inches of the stuff. And it is supposed to continue today.

But, at least it will stay for a day or two. Snow is one of those wonderment things if you ask me. When there is a fresh coating of it, things just seem better. I have to admit, it really did not bother me ALL that much to walk out into it at 6:35 this morning to shovel. It was still falling and dare I say it, it was beautiful.
(Please don’t think any less of me all you men out there for using that word).

The boys are so excited to see the snow. They can hardly wait to play with their friends at school in it.

Should be a good day.
